What is Silsden Golf Club?

Silsden Golf Club is a members club, sound as though it might be a little exclusive doesn’t it!

But the reality is that it is a non profit making organisation owned and managed by the members, rather like the traditional Working Men’s Clubs popular in the UK through the 1900’s.

Day to day management is undertaken by the General Management Committee, a small, dedicated group of members elected every 2 years.

Silsden Golf Clubs primary objective is to provide golfing facilities for its members and enable them to play golf as an when they choose to do so.

There is an Annual General Meeting held in March of each year at which members have the opportunity to decide on club rules and policy for the forthcoming years.

We are not a Limited Company nor are we owned by any individual/individuals.

How and why are subscription so low?

Silsden Golf Club realised some years ago that golf fees for the ordinary man or woman in the street were not representing good value for money.

The traditional way of charging members (cost of running the club divided by the number of members) was getting out of control with many Club fees reaching £800 and more!

As a village golf club, SGC cannot avoid the fact that its primary income source is derived from membership subscriptions. But SGC makes every effort to control expenditure, maximise income from other sources and provided members with great value for money.

I’m currently a member of a golf club, but I think the cost isn’t giving me value for money

Only you can decide what ‘value for money’ is, but if you use your current golf club as a base for administering your handicap, getting some on course practise and socialising. Maybe you could use the money you save by joining SGC to visit some of the courses you’ve not played for some time or put it towards the cost of some new clubs.

Come and take a look around Silsden Golf Club. There you will find a tranquil, well maintained 18 hole parkland course. A great clubhouse with facilities that include: Function room, sports bar with snooker and pool tables. There are men and women’s changing rooms with showers and a trolley store with battery charging facilities.

Silsden Golf Club may not be the most prestigious club in the area but here your views will be respected and you will be part of a club that has not forgotten its raison d'etre.

I occasionally play with friends and we tend to pay on the day, why should I join?

One of the main issues with ‘pay and play’ golfer seems to be time, they feel they can’t be a member because they can’t afford the time necessary to play.
We feel though that there are any number of reasons your SHOULD be a member, here are a couple answered:

  • When you Pay you play a full round!
    • Almost all Pay & Play golfers play a full round when they pay on the day. As a member of a golf club you pay once and play all year. So if you have an hour free and want a stroll then just play 4 holes, or 5, or 6 or whatever you want. It costs no more or no less. There is a direct correlation between the amount of time you spend on the course and how quickly you improve. Golf doesn’t have to be a full day!
  • You don’t need a Handicap, it’s just a bit of fun
    • I’m sorry but playing golf without a handicap is rather like playing Football without goal posts or Netball without a net! It allows you to play in club completions, a great way to meet fellow golfers and compete on a level playing field.

I’m thinking of taking up golf, but undecided which club to play at, why should I join?

If you have been thinking about it what better time to start than at the beginning of Summer. Long evenings and good weather make it perfect for you to decide whether this is the game for you.

Every year 20 to 30 men, women or juniors who have not played before join Silsden Golf Club. You are NOT alone! Join SGC and will quickly find people your own age or ability and with a common goal.
